Welcome to my website!

I am a tenured Senior Lecturer in the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at University of Mannheim (since 2019). Since 2024, I serve as Chair of the DGPuK Communication and Politics Division.

My work focuses on digital political communication, news use and effects, and the social and psychological dynamics of media and communication change. I study the consequences of our changing political communication landscape for individuals, society and the functioning of democracy, putting special emphasis on questions of social identity, social hierarchization, societal coexistence, and social coherence. In research and teaching, I have a special focus on quantitative and computational methodology and actively engage in methods development and validation.

My research has been published in leading journals, including Journal of Communication, Political Communication, and Digital Journalism, and has received several awards, among them the Kaid Sanders Best Article of the Year Award from the International Communication Association’s Political Communication Division.

Beyond academia, I contribute to public debates related to my research areas. I regularly author articles and expert reports for broader audiences, deliver keynote speeches, participate in panel discussions, and provide expert commentary through various media appearances.
